Protected Characteristics

The Equality Act became law in 2010. It  protects people from discrimination, harassment and victimisation. Everyone in Britain is protected.

Under the 2010 Equality Act,  all schools must demonstrate that no form of discrimination is tolerated and respect is hown to everyone.

Under the Equality Act, there are nine Protected  characteristics.

At Berridge, we ensure that our children are given opportunities to develop age-appropriate knowledge and understanding through a well-planned and delivered curriculum.  The teaching of protected characteristics is primarily part of the statutory Relationships Education, which is part of our PSHE provision but they are also addressed through assemblies, themes days, stories & Picture News.
