At Berridge Primary School, we are committed to emotional health and wellbeing. We aim to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for our whole school community and recognise how important mental health and emotional wellbeing is to our lives, in just the same way as physical health. We recognise that mental health is a crucial factor in our overall wellbeing as well as for learning and achievement. We aim for our school to be a nurturing and supportive environment with the potential to develop self-esteem and give positive experiences for overcoming adversity and building resilience. We believe that our school offers positive role models and relationships which are critical in promoting children’s wellbeing and can help create a sense of belonging and community.
Children at Berridge Primary School have access to different support systems which is provided by our Learning Mentor, such as; afterschool clubs, group support sessions, 1:1 support and drop in support at breaktimes and lunchtimes. Our Learning Mentor is ELSA trained which means Emotional Literacy Support Assistant.
Welcome to our Butterfly rooms
Our Butterfly rooms are spaces for our pupils to feel safe and have opportunities to share their thoughts, feelings and emotions. Group and one-to-one sessions happen here. Our rooms are based at both the infants and juniors site.
Challenge:
How many positive things can you think of?
Keeping busy
Keeping busy and moving our bodies every day. It is recommended that every child should exercise for one hour a day. It helps with the circulation of your blood around your body. Moving your body keeps you healthy and improves your mental health and wellbeing.
Try these videos below with your brothers, sisters or even your parents. Lets try and keep the whole house busy moving around:
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is important for helping us to breathe correctly. When we feel stressed, angry or worried we often do not breathe correctly. Having a moment of mindfulness helps regulates our emotions. Mindfulness can be; meditating, going for a walk, resting, listening to calming music.
Being mindful helps us focus on ourselves and less on our environment.
