Year 2 Home Learning Page
Welcome to the Year 2 Home learning Page!
It’s such a shame we can’t see you right now because we had to close the school for a while. We would really like to stay in touch with you and want you to keep working hard. Each week, on this page, you will find new learning activities for you to complete at home. Try and do as many as you can-we know you can do it! Also, don’t forget to look on the ‘Homework Websites’ page for lots more fun, learning websites.
Keep working hard, we are proud of you!

Follow this link to find daily lessons to suit year 2 children and support their learning. The objectives are linked to the national curriculum. If your child finds the year 2 work too challenging, they can have a look at the year 1 section to recap on what they learnt last year.
For writing this week, we would like you to write some sentences about the jungle picture. Remember to include a capital letter to start each sentence, interesting describing words, conjunctions to join ideas, and punctuation at the end of each sentence.
The reading activity will help you to learn about why we should look after the rainforest. Make sure you answer the questions after you've read the sheet.

Writing:
Imagine you are in school and we would like to go on a trip to the Moon! The only problem is, Mr Tee isn't sure whether he should let us go or not. Your task this week is to write a letter to Mr Tee that you think would persuade him to let us go on a trip to the moon. Think about how you will persuade him. Maybe you should explain how it will help with your learning. Maybe you need to tell him why you want to go. What will you do there? He might be worried about the cost or about your safety. How will you persuade him that it is safe and that we will get the money for the trip? We can't wait to see your letters!
If you would like to show us your finished work, you could take a photo and email it to our new email address:

NEW!! Online phonics lessons!
This week, online phonics lessons start. These are a great way to keep your child up to date with their phonics learning. The lessons play live each day, but if you miss them, they will stay available online throughout the summer term. The lessons are aimed at children in reception and year 1, but will also benefit many children in year 2, particularly those in the earlier stages of reading. Please read the letter below to find out more:

Writing:
This week, we would like you to write a character description about any character you like. It could be a character from a book, a film or a television programme that you watch. You will need to write sentences about what the character looks like, what type of person they are (they might be caring, happy, funny), what they like to do, where they live and any other information you know about them. Make sure you use some interesting describing words, conjunctions to join your ideas, and correct punctuation. You could add a picture to your work to show who your character is. If you would like to show us your finished work, you could take a photo and email it to:

Writing:
Our last topic was all about Traditional Tales. We would like you to have a go at retelling your favourite Traditional Tale. It could be Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, The Three Little Pigs or any other one that you like. You could retell the story using your voice first, perhaps to a member of your family. Then have a go at writing it down. Can you remember all the details? You could include adjectives to describe, and conjunctions (and, but, when, because, if, so, or) to join your ideas. If you really like a challenge, you could have a go at creating your own story!
We would love to see your work if you get chance to photograph it and email it to info@berridge.nottingham.sch.uk
