Self-isolation learning provision Autumn Term 2

COVID-19 AND YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

If your child  has a postive PCR test and has to isolate, you will have to  keep your child at home for 10 days , from the start of their symptoms. 

Below  is access to online lessons linked to the work they would be doing in class this term. 

 

This half term Foundation 1 are learning about woodland animals and day time and night time.  They will be looking at books related to this topic such as; Oliver's Wood, Can't you sleep little bear and Owl Babies. For maths the focus is still on introducing numbers 1-6.

F2's are going to be looking at the classic fairy tale 'The Ginger Bread Man' as well as 'It was a cold dark night' and 'Owl Babies'. Their number focus will be numbers 3-5, with a focus on understanding how those numbers are made. F2 will also continue to learn new letter sounds each week and start the blend the sounds together to read the word.

Owl Babies Picture Book Animation

In writing Year 1 are going to be focusing on story narrative and recount writing, with a focus on s/es plurals, capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

For maths they will be adding and subtracting numbers within 10 and looking at place value within 20. In geometry they will be recapping 2D/3D shapes and patterns.

Topics this half-term will be looking at labelling maps (South/ North pole and equator), the differences between birds, mammals and fish. Also, looking at globe and locating some places with a focus on who lives in Arctic and Antarctic. Taking a look at groups of carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and lastly, looking at their local area Hyson Green

For writing this half-term Year 2 are going to be focusing on writing speech and diaries with a focus on verbs and adverbs.

In maths they will be going on to addition and subtraction.

For their topic this half-term with will be studying 'The Great Fire of London'.

Year 3 have a fun half-term ahead. They will be looking at 'Stone Age Boy' looking at narrative writing with a focus on: inverted commas, adverbs and prepositional language.

They will also be looking at poetry and 'Talking Turkeys' by Benjamin Zephaniah.

In maths they will still be focusing on place value and addition/subtraction. They will also be focusing on times tables for, 3s, 4s and 8s.

Topics this term will be learning about 'The Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age'. They will also look at keeping their bodies healthy.

Benjamin Zephaniah Talking Turkeys

Year 4 will be exploring narrative writing, looking at Greek Myths with a focus on fronted time adverbials and relative clauses.

In maths the focus is on addition and subtraction.

Their topic this half-term is Ancient Greece, which links closely to their writing this half-term.

Year 5 are exploring persuasive letter writing and diaries this half-term with a focus on; relative clauses, figurative language, passive voice, subordinate clauses,  the use of brackets and dashes and commas for parenthesis.

In maths they will be focusing on addition and subtraction.

Their exciting topics this half-term are Space and The Romans.

Year 6 have a great half-term ahead. They are Looking at Hansel and Gretel with a focus on narrative, newspaper reports, figurative language, sentence openers and speech.

In maths the focus will be on the four operations, as well as, place value and fractions. Their geography topic will be mountains, earthquakes and volcanoes. Whereas in science they will be looking at evolution and inheritance.

Year 6 will be looking at the classic fairy tale 'Hansel and Gretel' this half-term. In writing they will be focusing on narratives, non-chronological reports and newspapers. Their grammar focus is half-term is sentence openers, speech and figurative language.

In maths they will be looking at the four operations, fractions and place value.

Topics this half-term will be What Lies Beneath (geography topic on mountains, earthquakes and volcanoes). They will also continue with their book study of 'Hansel and Gretel' looking at evolution and inheritance.
