Reducing plastic - new recycling art club at Brushfield

This term our reducing and recycling plastic art club are doing a project looking at the effects of plastics on our wild life.

The children have been developing a communal piece of art made entirely of plastic bags , bottles and bottle lids which is going to be a wall hanging of a sea scene with wild life in it.

We started by researching what companies are doing to reduce the use of plastic and replace items with friendlier, sustainable and biodegradable materials, which has been made into a Powerpoint.

The children have been developing design briefs/mood boards/sketch pads and researching materials to use to make a final piece of plastic art for the school. This may possibly be displayed outside as it will be water proof.

We have been looking at experimental ways of processing the plastic to produce the art. For example: weaving and ironing plastic bags to change their state.

At the end of it all the children will be giving an assembly on what they have learnt and achieved and  to promote reduction in the use of plastics in our society.
